Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Jeff WayneWar Of The Worlds

That’s a great record! It’s truly bananas and the more you listen to it the weirder it gets. Just look at the people who are on it. You’ve got Phil Lynott and you’ve got people who’ve played with David Bowie, and someone who played with the Wombles. Really good musicians. It can be challenging at times, but I suppose that’s okay because it sounds very much from that time. It’s got a very strong vibe. Then the really good bits are the bits with the synthesizers, that big sound. The story that drives it all is great too. Throw in a bit of HG Wells read by Richard Burton and you can’t beat that.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Julian Barratt, Mark Morriss
