Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. Bahamadia ‎Uknowhowwedu (You Know How We Do) Extended 12″

It’s cool because it’s the old school version, so there’s the vocal mix and the instrumental one. It is one that is fun to use when you’re DJing, you could put it over the top of other stuff. She’s another one those that has a very strong voice. Around the time there was Missy Elliott, she was pretty strong. The same with Bahamdia. It’s just a strong record, a strong delivery. I think that’s cool because mostly in songs, you’d have the females doing this sweet singing and then you’d have the rough vocal from the guy. It was cool to actually have things differently.

She used to do vocals on other stuff too. I was listening to this Roni Size record yesterday, because I found some old records from I don’t know when, and it sounds like her on it as well. It’s a female that is sure of herself, but not like in a negative way. There’s just no room for doubt. It’s just a very sleek delivery, and I think it’s inspiring in that way.
