Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. DJ PleadRuby

Hervé: He’s an Australian DJ with Lebanese roots, working on bass music, mixing it with belly dancing stuff. We discovered him recently and he’s signed to a British label, Nervous Horizon. He’s a really interesting producer and an interesting remixer as well. He did a great set recently in Paris.    Guido: It was through our friend DJ Phil Battiekh that we discovered DJ Plead’s music, and we’ve never got bored of it. Insanely creative, edgy and dance-oriented, his last EP ‘Pleats Plead’ has a special bonus on its vinyl version, called ‘Ruby’, which is in reference to the Egyptian singer Ruby, who sang the song used here, back in 2004. And we love the way he gave rebirth to this song. The original song (‘Leih Beydary Keda’) is kind of cheesy. It’s really a sample and a reworking.
