Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Mekine U TeksiEmigration

Guido: We’re not even sure we know the truth about Mekine U Teksi. We don’t really know who they are. We think they’re from Dusseldorf, but when I say they, it might only be one person. Maybe Hervé knows more?    Hervé: No. Nobody knows.    Guido: The only thing we know is that they played a lot at the Salon des Amateurs, that’s why we think that maybe they are from Dusseldorf. Because we don’t see acts playing Salon des Amateurs coming from other countries too much, but we don’t know. It’s a mystery. But he, she or they are making really good music, and not only this track. ‘Postanatolische de Steppenroboter’, the EP that this comes from, is amazing, but we’ve heard a couple of new tracks on various compilations and they’re always really good. This track was on a French label called Hard Fist and it’s a banger to us, even though it deals with low bpm and is discreet sounding.
