The band join caroline and Lankum to complete the bill for our partnership event with Rough Trade Records

With just a few days to go until tQ's 15th birthday gig on September 5 at London's Electric Brixton, we're excited to confirm that the bill is rounded out by a headline set from long-time tQ favourites black midi.

We first saw the band many moons ago at some of their earliest gigs and they've been named tQ album of the week for each of their long-players. Debut Schlagenheim was praised thusly: "The band's musical ideas are so bright, and so densely packed into their songs, that it just feels unfair." Follow-up Cavalcade saw us describe them as "one of the most ferociously boundary-pushing musical entities we have now," and third outing Hellfire was proclaimed to be "a righteous maelstrom."

You can read tQ editor John Doran's early interview with the band here and our Baker's Dozen interview with Geordie Greep here.

black Midi join the previously-announced caroline on the bill for the event at Electric Brixton, which also includes an appearance by tQ albums-of-the-year-so-far chart toppers Lankum. The gig is being hosted as a fundraiser by our friends at Rough Trade Records and Parallel Lines to help us keep on for another 15 years – thank you to everyone who has put in a tonne of hard work to make this happen. You can buy tickets here.

Geoff Travis and Jeanette Lee said these kind words: "We love reading The Quietus. It is a hugely important site for music writing. We can't afford to live without it. When we heard that they were undergoing financial difficulties, we just wanted to help. By putting on a night of music to raise some money for them with the very generous help of some amazing artists, we thought that would help. See you there!"

TQ founders John Doran and Luke Turner said: "Over the past 15 years, we at The Quietus have written and published countless words on Rough Trade artists past and present, had our minds melted at their gigs, and in 2022 made Jockstrap's debut, I Love You Jennifer B, our Album Of The Year. We're therefore honoured that Geoff, Jeannette and all the good people of Rough Trade Records have stepped in to support us and that some of our favourite acts of recent times have agreed to play. We can't think of a better way to celebrate our birthday."
