The London artist's third full-length record for Hyperdub will be released in September

Out in September, the 16-track record features contributions from Marina Herlop, keiyaA and George Riley, among others. The album sees her examine her past and present, according to a press release, and takes some musical cues from the math-rock and electronic music she enjoyed listening to during her teenage years. You can watch a video for lead track ‘2003’, which addresses the day her father passed away 20 years ago, above.

Gentle Confrontation marks James’ third full-length record for Hyperdub, following on from 2021’s Reflection. In the two years since that record, she has also released an album influenced by the works of Julius Eastman and debuted the alias Whatever The Weather.

Hyperdub will release Gentle Confrontation on September 22, 2023.
