The Shaggs – Philosophy Of The World

I first heard it on a cassette tape that someone gave to me around 1986 and just fell for it immediately. It didn’t take any time at all for me to feel attached to this album. One thing that rather surprised me was, I was talking to Dot Wiggin [Shaggs lead singer] and she told me that they used sheet music – they had all the notes written out ahead of time. They could all read music, which rather surprised me. And then I was asking her why their name is spelled with two gs, and she said: “Well, it’s like shaggy dog.” Struck me as kinda’ funny because I always thought it’s because of the haircut. But I guess not.
