Powell has shared details of a new record, Piano Music 1-7.
Set for release next month, it marks the UK artist’s debut on Editions Mego. The album was mapped out using a Grand Steinway piano sampler as a placeholder, before the artist ultimately decided the synthetic piano’s acoustic properties suited his compositions and pushed ahead with its use. He never touched an actual piano during the album’s creation. You can preview the album via opening cut ‘Piano Music 1’ just below.
"What emerged from this fog or soup were ideas and processes that felt affirmative and life giving — sensations I had always hoped to convey in my music," Powell says in the liner notes. "Perhaps the optimism or positivity I felt at these musical events unfolding, these clusters and knots tumbling in different directions across time, can also be felt by you."
Piano Music 1-7 follows on from Powell’s work on his a ƒolder multimedia project, which he started last year with Michael Amstad and Marte Eknæs. The third instalment of the series was released at the start of this year.
Editions Mego will release Piano Music 1-7 on August 27, 2021.
