LCY on ‘Steinbolt’ from Ultravisitor (2004)

I was a Chris Cunningham fan first and I fell into Squarepusher's rabbit hole like that with ‘Come On My Selector’. I hear so much jazz influence in the music and it's incredibly rare that an artist can capture both harmonious melodic sequences within their music as well as the chaotic discordant side.

He’s soundtracked moments of pure rage or release, sometimes specifically against cookie-cutter-made tunes. I put on the Go Plastic album to paint as it's good for blocking out anxious thoughts. You feel yourself focus on the journey. Steinbolt was probably one of my earliest reference points for deconstructed club – it's a ride into chaos and back to the other side with neatly polished elements and distorted patterns… a destructive masterpiece!
