Feed Us Weird Things: Artists On Their Favourite Squarepusher Music

To mark the new reissue of Squarepusher's debut album 'Feed Me Weird Things', the likes of Loraine James, John Frusciante and Danalogue pick their favourite albums and tracks by the game-changing producer

If there’s one thing that emerges about Squarepusher from the career-spanning selection of tracks, albums and remixes by the producer compiled in this article, it is that his music has the power to fundamentally shift the way one sees the world around them. Whether it be John Frusciante’s transcendent wander through Tokyo to Ultravisitor, or Bogdan Raczynski, who was "connected, transported, ejected, thousands of miles away," by Port Rhombus, he is one of those artists with whom first contact can be definitive.

For some, Squarepusher’s music has intensified the most emotional or poignant moments in their lives, like a young Danalogue at the end of an era with his friends, or Sophia Loizou combing dark West Country roads for a party in the early 2000s. Elsewhere, you’ll find artists simply dazzled by his musical genius – Kavus Torabi left spellbound by a jazz bass solo delivered halfway through an intimate DJ set, for example.

tQ got in touch with these artists and more to mark the 25th anniversary of the producer’s debut album, the remarkable Feed Me Weird Things, and a comprehensive reissue of the record by Warp. Were it not for the way Squarepusher, AKA Tom Jenkinson, has only stretched boundaries even further across the rest of his career, it would be hard to believe it’s aged a day.

It was among the first of many records that, as you’ll find out, have genuinely changed lives.
