Laurie Spiegel – The Expanding Universe
I only heard this maybe five years ago when it was reissued. It was the time when I was making Mary Casio and I found her just so incredibly inspiring. She creates this kind of chilling cosmos with the arpeggios, the way her sounds entwine and invoke distant worlds. It feels quite scientific in some ways and she’s known as someone who’s kind of computerised her music – developed programmes to actually make music, that sort of thing. I find though, even knowing that, that the music carries so much emotion, the wave forms and little bubbles of sound allow for the listener to attach their own meanings to the sounds, as opposed to lyrical content, which I find harder and harder to digest.
