Having announced plans for a second fee-waive day this Friday (May 1) earlier this month, Bandcamp has now confirmed that the first Friday of June and July will also see the company waive its share of sales via the platform.
Bandcamp, regularly recognised as one of the most direct ways to purchase music from artists, traditionally takes a 15% cut of digital, physical and merchandise sales. However, on May 1, June 5 and July 3, from midnight Pacific Time, 100% of sales will go into the pockets of artists with Bandcamp hoping to support artists as best as it can amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first fee-waive day, on March 20, resulted in the sale of almost 800,000 items and a total spend of $4.3 million. This was a significant contrast to an average Friday, Bandcamp said, with around 47,000 items typically being sold on that day.
