Popol Vuh - Nosferatu
And then Popol Vuh became friends with Werner Herzog and they were able to do some of these amazing soundtracks, of which my favourite would definitely be Nosferatu. They are all masterpieces, but I will pick the one that completely creeps me out. That is truly beyond and it really contributes to the visual; it brings forth emotion to the film, and makes it even more haunting. It is so haunting that you cannot get it out of your head or your mind’s eye. There’s that scene where Isabelle Adjani is walking through the plaza and they are all those rats everywhere that got off the boat - she actually walked through that! These are real rats not CGI and she walked right through that. That is a true actress!

In the ‘Brüder des Schattens' track the notes are in the minor key and have an effect on you that is unnerving. When on either on Greed or Holy Money I did the build-up on the vocals underneath Michael’s [Gira] voice, I did those notes deliberately and they work really well and they create this subtle tension. When you are performing those you see that eerie scene in Nosferatu, and that is the visualization I had at the time, and it made me really happy to be able to find the plateau where that would work.
