Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. WardrunaRunaljod

I think I first listened to Wardruna around the time I was performing at Inferno festival in Norway and I someone had turned me on to them. I love the vocals and their harmonies harmonies and the primitive sound of it, but the melodies and harmonies was what really grabbed me. That stuff is really interesting to me, the global, world music. Wardruna use old instrumentation, and that is what is so intriguing about it. There is something very passionate about their sound, and the music is quite mathematical, it is quite precise and percussive and very warrior-like. I think that it is really great that there are young, modern musicians and composers out there that are keeping native and historic instrumentation alive with new music. Einar Selvik was involved in the black metal scene and played drums for Gorgoroth and he is now producing this purist music of the heritage of his country.
