Marking National Poetry Day with a track from Jock Scot in collaboration with Scottish indie band The Nectarine No. 9; listen to the track below

Today is National Poetry Day and what better way to mark that than with something from Jock Scot, who provides vocals on the track above.

‘Just Another Fucked Up Little Druggy On The Scene’ sees the Scottish poet’s spoken word musings layered over a simple loop of drums and guitars. The track features on Saint Jack, an album from Scottish indie band The Nectarine No. 9, which will be reissued by Forever Heavenly next month with a bonus collection of John Peel session tracks as well as a selection of covers. The album was originally released in 1995 and became something of an unsung legend among local circles. “The feel of Saint Jack was informed by Iggy’s backing band on the Lust For Life album - the repetitious riffs and call-and-response vocals,” said the band’s Davy Henderson. “We wanted Saint Jack to sound black-and-white, tough, dry.” The album will be reissued on November 27 and you can read what happened when Jock Scot had a long lunch with director Robert Rubbish and Fat White Family’s Lias Saoudi here.
