John Phillips - John Phillips (John, The Wolf King Of L.A.)
I'd never really given John Phillips the time of day. I'd never really cared about The Mamas & The Papas, but in the late 90s amongst hipster scum there was lots of whispering about this Wolf King Of L.A. record and I finally bought it at a flea market. It's now one of my longest-standing favourite records of all time. It's really held up over the last 15 years. I still listen to it a shitload. There's something about him. I find his voice and his approach to melodic and lyrical phrasing deceptively simple but also super elegant. I like that loose early 70s playing.
