Aidan Moffat Details Second Album From Solo Project Nyx Nótt

'Themes From' is out next month

Aidan Moffat is set to release the second album from his solo project Nyx Nótt.

Spanning eight tracks, Themes From is entirely instrumental. You can get a taste of it via new track ‘Actioner’ above.

"The plan was to make twenty 90-second tracks designed as TV themes," Moffat said in a statement about the record. He ultimately moved away from that idea, deciding it was "too gimmicky and silly," and opted to expand the productions into full tracks, "making some of them quite long and dramatic, with the odd swift turn here and there."

During the process of working on Themes From, Moffat began sourcing samples from professional TV and film music libraries. "The focus then turned to making a proper album out of these modern library sounds," he said. "I decided to stick with the Themes From title and named the tracks after the sorts of shows they made me think of when I listened back. Each track has its own individual feel. The idea was to sound like a different composer and band throughout."

Themes From follows Moffat’s first album under the Nyx Nótt moniker, 2020’s Aux Pieds De La Nuit, as well as the latest album he made as part of Arab Strap, 2021’s As Days Get Dark.

Melodic will release Themes From on December 2, 2022.
