Mica Levi & Oliver Coates – 'Barok Main' [SLP035] from Slip on Vimeo.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Mica Levi’s next project sees her team up with Oliver Coates for a collaborative album set to be released by the team at Slip. Above is the video for ‘Barok Main’, premiering exclusively via tQ, taken from the album.
‘Barok Main’ is a subdued composition combining calming synth pads and heavily treated strings, played by both Coates and Levi. The album, entitled Remain Calm, sees both musicians trace their backgrounds in classical composition while also channeling various more populist influences and genre interests. The project emerged from an impromptu jam on Mica Levi’s NTS show with the pair then working away and improvising further in a South London flat following their first musical meeting. The results are described as having been "chopped and screwed" forming the 13 tracks that make up this new album.
The pair have come together on record before when Coates provided strings for Levi’s acclaimed score for the film Under The Skin. Remain Calm is set for release on November 25 and can be pre-ordered here.
