LISTEN: East India Youth – TURN AWAY

Second track taken from CULTURE OF VOLUME, and it's a pop banger

Last night, East India Youth gave us another taste of his upcoming second album, unveiling the track ‘TURN AWAY’ on Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 programme. It follows up on ‘CAROUSEL’ (watch the video for that below), and where that track was an elegiac string-lined, slow-burner, ‘TURN AWAY’ takes another tack: it’s a four-minute pop tear-through, shifting from helicopter rotor synth to the kind of grandiose mid-song rush that EIY’s William Doyle excels at, electronic flares raining down over motorik urgency (and hats off to anyone who starts a song with "Christ alive…").

Yesterday EIY announced an intimate show at the Sebright Arms in London on March 4 to give the new songs their first live airing. Head here for tickets, and put your pre-orders in for CULTURE OF VOLUME, out on April 6 via XL, here.
