LISTEN: Girl Band – Lawman

New single from Irish noise band ahead of upcoming live shows

One of the final things Girl Band – the Irish noise group whose deafeningly brilliant cover of Blawan’s ‘Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage’ was one of our tracks of last year – told us in their Escape Velocity interview was that they were working on a new single, one that was "seven minutes long and has one note". Today, they’ve unveiled said track online, ahead of its release as a limited edition 7" on Any Other City Records on January 10 – have a listen to ‘Lawman’ below:

The cut hits home even further the influence of dance music the band told us about: everything operates on stop-start repetition which nods more to electronic samples than it does to straight riffing. There are echoes of the Blawan cover in the hefty, glorious clunking of the guitar, forming huge, rolling drops over which layers of searing noise and Dara Kiely’s increasingly unhinged vocals get applied, working up to a mammoth aural pulverising around the five-minute mark. Pre-order the single at their Bandcamp, where you can see their upcoming shows, starting with the Green Door Store in Brighton on January 15, followed by dates in the Netherlands (including Incubate Festival’s XL one-nighter), London and Ireland.
