It’s shaping up to be a vintage weekend for fans of heavyweight techno-flavoured dance music this Bank Holiday. This Sunday 5th May, Colony – who’ve put on some of our favourite parties in the capital over the last few years – are taking over Corsica Studios along with Scand for a night of ace, darkened funk.
Heading up the bill in Colony’s Room 1 is UK veteran James Ruskin (pictured) – "we could go on and on about his productions (dating all the way back to ’95), his label (founded a year later and going stronger than ever) and his 20 year+ DJ career (nuff said), but we won’t – just come down and dance your nut(s) off," in the words of Colony themselves. He’s joined by Semantica label owner Svreca, flying across from Madrid, and whose label has put out some excellent material as of late (with a recent Surgeon/Svreca/Skirt EP of particular note), alongside Ø [Phase], Lee Holman (live), and Colony residents Tengui & CB. Scand’s Room 2 will be on a somewhat more chaotic electro tip, headed up by The Hacker, alongside DMX Krew, Dexorcist, Sync 24, Innume, Agent2 and Steve Allman. Elsewhere this weekend there’s all manner of other musical goodness. First up there’s Plex, who are putting on another of their Basement Sessions at the Waiting Room on Friday 3rd with no-doubt-great secret guests in tow (information here but tickets are long sold out). Then on Saturday 4th Oscillate Wildly bring a very impressive line-up to Corsica Studios, featuring the likes of Peverelist, Elgato and Beneath taking to the decks.
And on Monday 6th Hydroacoustics are bringing a raft of experimental and techno-leaning musicians to soothe hangovers in the suitably echo-ridden surrounds of the MS Stubnitz – click here for information and the chance to win tickets.
