SoundCloud Reportedly Set To Let Fans Pay Artists Directly

The company is considering a system similar to those of Patreon and OnlyFans

SoundCloud will reportedly soon introduce a new streaming model that will allow fans to pay artists directly.

As Billboard reports, it’s expected that the new system will give fans the chance to pay artists directly on a model similar to those of Patreon and OnlyFans, and artists will have the choice of what content they will make free and paid. It’s a system that’s already in place with Chinese streaming platform Tencent Music’s QQ Music.

The move would make SoundCloud the first major music streaming service to embrace a direct payment model, but it has not yet been confirmed by the company. According to Billboard, SoundCloud will announce its full plans before the end of the first quarter of 2021.
