MF DOOM Dies, Aged 49

The iconic rapper passed away in October according to a post shared via his social media accounts

Rapper MF DOOM has died, aged 49.

The news was revealed via the masked rapper’s Instagram account, in a post written by his wife Jasmine. In the post, she describes the rapper, real name Daniel Dumile, as "the greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for." She concludes the post by revealing that he "transitioned October 31, 2020." The cause of death remains unknown.

Dumile was born in London in 1971, moving to Long Island, New York at a young age with his family. He adopted the masked MF DOOM persona in 1997, taking on the role as an alter ego and going on to release his debut album, Operation: Doomsday in 1999. Dumile always wore his mask while performing, and would not be photographed without it, save for brief glimpses in videos.

2004’s Madvillainy, a collaboration album with Madlib, is widely regarded to be DOOM’s masterpiece, while he also collaborated with the likes of Flying Lotus, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood over the course of his career.

As well as MF DOOM, Dumile recorded under aliases such as King Ghidra, Metal Fingers and Viktor Vaughn.
