New Book To Explore History Of D&B

The book from Knowledge magazine co-founder Colin Steven will look back on all of the scene's different factions

Colin Steven, the founder of now defunct magazine Knowledge, also known as Kmag, is planning to release a hardback book exploring the history of drum & bass.

Kmag ran from 1994 until 2014 and was a vital read for fans of the genre, covering the various sounds that made up the scene. Steven now views this one-off book as a chance to see off Kmag for good.

"The main reason I’m bringing Knowledge back is that I feel I have unfinished business," he said. "Reaching 20 years was such an important milestone but it was a bittersweet moment and I didn’t celebrate it because I knew the end was coming. Earlier this year I realised that this year was our 25th anniversary so I wanted to mark the occasion somehow. What better way than with one last issue?"

He continues: "At first I considered doing a magazine but I want to make it really special. One of the things former readers say to me when they find out that I used to edit Knowledge is that they still have all of their copies and can’t bring themselves to throw them away! So if people can’t part with their magazines then surely they will appreciate a one-off premium book?"

The book will be available with a hardback cloth cover and is due for release in December, marking the end of the magazine’s 25th anniversary year. You can pre-order the limited run book and find more information here.
