Sonny Sharrock - Black Woman

My reason for this pick is because of Linda Sharrock. Her voice was, and still is, one of a kind, it has a divine quality to it. The first time I heard it, and any time I hear any of her music I'm overwhelmed with joy. It feels like freedom, like someone who's really utilising their body in a way that embodies that. I heard this album in 2010 when I was exploring extended vocal techniques, things outside of lyrics. I was exploring with my voice, but what she does will fill up your room and your soul in a way that I don't know if I'm capable of doing. Either you've got it or you don't, but I was taking the first initiative to open up those doors of experimenting.
