Meltdown 2014: First Names Announced

Neneh Cherry, Mark Lanegan & DJ Harvey for James Lavelle-curated event

The first names for this year’s Meltdown festival, taking place at the Southbank Centre in London from June 13-22 and curated by Mo’Wax founder James Lavelle, have just been announced. Neneh Cherry, Mark Lanegan, playing his only European date of the year, and a set from DJ Harvey are among the highlights, Lavelle’s UNKLE doing a one-off show, Chrissie Hynde playing her recently-announced debut solo LP Stockholm, Goldie performing his debut album Timeless in full with the Heritage Orchestra. Also announced are a pair of film screenings – Jonathan Glazer’s adaptation of the Michel Faber sci-fi novel Under The Skin accompanied by Mica Levi and Orchestrate and Waltz With Bashir with a live score from the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by André de Ridder – as well as The Fairey Band performing Jeremy Deller’s Acid Brass, long-running no wave group ESG supported by 23 Skidoo, Edwyn Collins, Glass Animals, Radkey, Keaton Henson and Petite Noir. Running for the duration of the event will be Urban Archaeology, celebrating 21 years of Mo’Wax, with full details yet to be announced.
