I’d heard singles much earlier but I think I bought this in 1987. Bolan wanted to make a disposable rock LP that was the opposite to an uptight prog record but what he recorded, strangely, ended up being this timeless piece of art. Tony Visconti was at his best when he recorded this and that certainly didn’t hurt. I think that fetching violin into 'Cosmic Child' gives it that longevity. 'Lean Woman Blues' is excellent. The artwork is amazing as well. Cornershop were big on Bolan. For about eight months when me and Ben lived together with another couple of rockers [laughs] Bolan was the only thing we ever listened to. He was everything to us. His entire approach informed us.
