Spiritualized Unveil ‘Amazing Grace’ Reissue

Coming two decades on from the album's original release, the record has been remastered especially for the new edition

Spiritualized are reissuing their fifth studio album, Amazing Grace.

Due out in January, the album has been remastered for vinyl especially for its new edition, and will be made available in both a standard black vinyl pressing and on limited-edition dove grey vinyl. It comes after Spiritualized reissued their first four albums over the course of 2021. You can watch a previously unseen video for Amazing Grace album cut ‘Rated X’ above.

Originally released in 2003, Amazing Grace comprised various garage rock songs and ballads. The recording, a press release says, was "fast and experimental," and carried out across three weeks at Wales’ Rockfield Studios.

Speaking about the record, Spiritualized’s J Spaceman said: "It was almost the opposite of what I’d been doing for the two albums that preceded it. We’d recorded Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space and Let It Come Down, and we’d just pushed things out as far as they could go. And I wanted to make records that had a bit more space in them.

"None of the band heard the song until the morning of the recordings. After the Rockfield sessions, we went back to London and overdubbed the Kenny Wheeler and Evan Parker parts, and the strings, the little quartet. But we did it almost immediately. It was like, ‘we’re gonna put this down and that’s it’."

Fat Possum will release Amazing Grace on January 19, 2024.
