Zun Zun Egui Announce Split

Bristol band call time after seven years, writing "the stresses and strains of touring and working together have taken their toll"

It’s with disappointment that we report that tQ favourites Zun Zun Egui have split. In a message posted on Facebook, the band – which comprised Kushal Gaya, Luke Mosse, Matthew Jones, Yoshino Shigihara and Adam Newton – wrote: "After 7 amazing years the stresses and strains of touring and working together have taken their toll and we feel it is time to go our separate ways and pursue other dreams and projects," as well as thanking friends and fans. Read the post in full here.

After forming in 2008, the band released two albums on Bella Union, 2011’s Katang and Shackles’ Gift earlier this year. The latter was inspired by a trip the band made to Mauritius, Gaya’s homeland, to play the country’s Independence Day celebrations in 2013. Read Gaya and Kerrison talking to tQ editor John Doran about the record here, as well as Simon Jay Catling’s earlier interview, and watch the video for ‘African Tree’ from it below:
