Zola Jesus heads up a new collaboration with JG Thirlwell to create an orchestral version of 2011's Avalanche

Zola Jesus has announced details of her new LP entitled Versions, set for release on August 20, with album cut ‘Avalanche (Slow)’ premiered today – have a listen above.

The album is a collaboration with experimental pioneer and symphonic composer Foetus’ JG Thirlwell and the Mivos String Quartet to create orchestral reimaginings of Jesus’ most acclaimed tracks.

‘Avalanche (Slow)’, originally on 2011’s Conatus, begins with an emotive swell of strings provided by the Quartet as Zola starts to sing her tentative yet touching vocal. The strings continue throughout the track at a steady pace, showcasing the flourishes and layered variations of Thirlwell’s score. Removing the nocturnal, driving electronic percussion and Jesus’ own assured vocal delivery of the original, ‘Avalanche (Slow)’ takes on a completely different character.
