Take a listen to the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs track ‘Sacrilege’ above, taken from their forthcoming album Mosquito, out on April 15 via Polydor, and premiered on Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio 1 yesterday (via Pitchfork).
It sounds more like early Stone Roses than their familiar scratchy post-punk territory, with a crashing backbeat and trilling guitar fills, all knitted together with Karen O’s familiar stop-start distorted squall. That all comes before a 24-piece choir rises up out of nowhere, though, turning it into something of a redemptive, reflective pressure cooker – more than a little unexpected as our first taste of the new album.
