Next month will see the release of a new retrospective box set from Yazoo entitled Four Pieces.
Premiering above, you can hear a remix of the duo’s track ‘Winter Kills’, by Minute Taker, which will feature on the box set. The man behind Minute Taker, Ben McGarvey, says of the remix: "I remember getting a battered old LP copy of Upstairs at Eric’s from a secondhand shop when I was quite young. All my friends at school were listening to Britpop and I was becoming increasingly obsessed with 80s synth-pop.
"I was instantly captivated by the unlikely combination of Vince’s stark, intricate synth arrangements and Alison’s incredibly gutsy and soulful voice. I loved the sense of mystique in how the duo presented themselves and how the songs were, on the surface, quite accessible but with an underlying strangeness that really spoke to me. They soon became one of my favourite bands and later, one of my biggest musical influences."
Four Pieces will be released on vinyl, while an additional CD edition entitled Three Pieces is also set for release. The box sets will feature both of the duo’s albums – 1982’s Upstairs at Eric’s and 1983’s You and Me Both – as well as a collection of remixes and the pair’s BBC Sessions in their entirety, both of which were recorded in 1982.
Four Pieces is out on October 26 while Three Pieces will follow on November 2. You can pre-order the release here.
