LISTEN: Yak Cover King Crimson & More

Clip from new joint-release tape put together by London trio and tour mates The Big Moon ahead of May dates

London scallywags Yak are about to head out on tour with The Big Moon, on a seven-date trip taking them from Nottingham to London. Take a look at the dates below. To celebrate, they’re marking the jaunt with a joint tape release. Limited to just 100 copies, Milked will only be available on the groups’ tour and is released on Heart Throb Records. Yak’s side is a continuous 38-minute mix that features unreleased tracks and covers of the likes of King Crimson, Faust and Lonnie Donegan. The band performed the covers entirely from memory, meaning that they ended up creating some radically different versions of the originals. The Big Moon’s side of the tape, meanwhile, will contain three tracks, ‘Eureka Moment’, a "shit demo" version of ‘Nothing Without You’ and ‘This is the News’.

Before the tour begins, we have a clip from the tape, Yak’s take on ’The Gift/21st Century Schizoid Man’, to listen to – give it a play above. With Oli Burslem, lead singer of Yak, telling the Quietus in February that he’d like to try "something more considered", this tape may well be the first fruits of that idea, and they’ll be following it up with their debut EP, Plastic People, on 25 May.
