LISTEN: Yak – Hungry Heart

First play of debut single from new London three-piece

Coming out on February 24 is ‘Hungry Heart’, the debut single by ace London trio Yak, and very kindly Fat Possum, releasing the track, have given us a first play – wrap your ears around it above. It’s a relentless three-minute onslaught, which coats a kinetic, Led Zeppelin-shaded bass line in some of the noisy, propulsive layers of Toy, with Oli Burslem slipping from reedy utterances in the verse to hammering home a militant chorus repetition of "again and again and again".

Thus far, the group, comprising Burslem, Elliot Rawson and Andy Jones, have only played a handful of gigs (in fact, take a look at a video of them playing the track at the Shacklewell Arms last year below), but they’ve got a stack more lined up, beginning with slots supporting Peace in Bristol later this month, followed by further UK dates. Have a look at their Facebook for full details and pre-order the 7" (that’s Nick Waplington’s artwork you can see above) off Fat Possum’s site.
