Wysing Arts Centre Details Online 2020 Polyphonic Festival

The 11th edition of the Cambridgeshire organisation's annual event will take place online

Wysing Arts Centre has shared details of the 2020 edition of its annual Wysing Polyphonic Festival.

As with a number of this year’s festivals, this year’s edition will take place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme for this year’s edition is curated by A—Z, a self-described "exploratory curatorial platform" founded by researcher Anne Duffau.

This year’s Wysing Polyphonic will be split into two parts, covering online mixes and soundscapes, live performance, and poetry readings. The first part will see DJs and producers CRYSTALLMESS, mobilegirl, LYZZA, AUDINT, and Hannah Catherine Jones each contribute mixes experimenting with sound, music and spoken word. Their work will respond to the idea of being ungovernable and defying norms, in line with this year’s theme of The Ungoverned. These recordings will be presented on via Wysing’s new digital broadcast platform throughout August.

The second part of this year’s Wysing Polyphonic will be presented as a special live broadcast on September 5 of readings online from Whiskey Chow, Rachel Long and Tanaka Fuego, followed by a specially commissioned performance specially commissioned by choreographer and dancer Maëva Berthelot in partnership with musician Coby Sey. Berthelot and Sey will be in-residence at Wysing for two weeks prior to the broadcast in a one-off experimental collaboration.

A—Z follows the likes of Nkisi, Moor Mother and Emptyset’s Paul Purgas as curator of Wysing Polyphonic. For more information on this year’s edition of Wysing Polyphonic, head here.
