South London rapper Speech Debelle is touring her new single ‘Live For The Message’ this week, the latest track to be taken from this year’s Freedom Of Speech album.
We had a brilliant interview with Speech earlier this year, which took in race and politics as much as the new album, about which she told us: "This album was much more in the moment, so there was a much broader spectrum of my character on this album; the last album [Speech Therapy] had seen songs only written for certain reasons – and that’s why it ended up being called what it was. This one was like watching me for five months and witnessing a different facet of my character every day, and I think that’s the probably the difference and what I appreciate about this album"; read the rest of the interview here.
The dates she’s playing this week are:
DECEMBER
Thu 13 – Jazz Cafe, London
Fri 14 – Start The Bus, Bristol
Sat 15 – Institute, Birmingham
