The excellent Malian singer-songwriter Sidi Touré is currently on a European tour in support of Alafia, the new album – his third for Thrill Jockey – that he released last month. For the album, Touré combined the Songhaï folk music of Mali with influences from further afield, addressing the violent unrest that hit the county’s northern regions, including his native Gao, in the last year in the process.
