This week, Universal release The Notes & The Music – A Collection of Demos and Rarities, which condenses the contents of 2010’s definitive 19-disc box set, Sandy Denny, into four CDs containing 75 tracks of demos, rarities and alternate versions. Much like its bigger brother, it will no doubt become something of a collector’s item – it’s limited to 3,500 copies worldwide, and, what with that rather swish hardback book-style packaging, you’ll have to move quick to get your hands on one – do so now by clicking here.
However, we’re giving you the very rare opportunity to be the proud owner of that original box set, containing, essentially, Denny’s entire back catalogue: 11 CDs featuring all of her studio recordings, both solo and with Alex Campbell, Johnny Silvo, Fotheringay, Strawbs and Fairport Convention; eights CDs of unreleased songs, demos, unreleased BBC recordings, alternate takes, live recordings, acoustic versions, and rare radio interviews and a 72-page hardback book containing rare photographs. Our box set is one of the final ones to come out of the archives, so is sadly missing its box and the original’s extra artwork and memorabilia, but is the complete works otherwise – have a look at the picture above for a taste of what to expect.
To be in with a chance of winning, just e-mail your answer to the following question to comps@thequietus.com, with SANDY in the subject line, by midday Monday November 5. It’s open to UK residents only, and to read the Quietus Competition terms & conditions, click here.
