Pianist, composer and founder of the Blank Canvas night Will Dutta has announced the release of his debut album for Just Music. Entitled Parergon, it’s set for release on 14th May and features collaborations with Max De Wardener, Warp Records mainstays Plaid, John Matthias and Neil Grant. We’ve been given the album’s opener, ‘Distance’, a collaboration with Plaid, to preview – listen via the embed below.
Parergon is the culmination of a series of events and collaborations that Dutta has been involved with. He runs Blank Canvas, a self-stated ‘classical club night’ which has featured collaborations and performances from the likes of Plaid, Mark Fell and Leafcutter John, and has performed at venues reaching from London’s Village Underground to the Tate Modern and the Southbank Centre. The album explores a similar intersection between modern composition and the outer reaches of electronic music – it’s all underpinned by Dutta’s own piano work and solo performances of his own pieces, but is frequently heavily processed and digitally torn to shreds by his collaborators.
Parergon is released through Just Music on 14th May.
