LISTEN: Wild Beasts Remix Napoleon IIlrd

Ahead of their planned split early next year, Wild Beasts share a remix for Napoleon IIIrd to be featured on upcoming charity compilation

The recent news that Wild Beasts would play their final shows early next year and then split was understandably met with much sadness.

"We’re caretakers to something precious and don’t want to have it diminish as we move forward in our lives," a statement said announcing their decision to call it quits. Fans of the band might take some comfort in one of the last pieces of music that the band will share, a remix of Napoleon IIIrd’s ‘The Scrape’, which is premiering above.

It’s a brooding, largely ambient piece stretching out across more than eight minutes, offering a more minimalist sound from the band, before stomping drums enter proceedings in the track’s final stretch.

The remix will be released as part of a new compilation from Leeds-based label and social enterprise project Come Play With Me. Made up of music from West Yorkshire-hailing acts, Come Play takes in music from new and more established names.

Upcoming acts like ZoZo and Magic Mountain feature alongside a collaboration between Post War Glamour Girls frontman James Konapinski and American inventor Thomas Truax, as well as a track from The Wedding Present re-recorded during sessions for their last album in 2015.

In all, the two-disc compilation takes in 26 tracks. It will be released digitally and in CD format on December 1 and can be pre-ordered here. All proceeds from the sales of the compilation will be invested into Come Play With Me’s work supporting people into sustainable music careers in the Leeds City region.
