WATCH: Recent Arts Video

Live techno improvisations from Berthelon and Freund get visual accompaniment; watch below

Zero Theorem from Valentina Berthelon on Vimeo.

As Recent Arts, Valentina Berthelon and Tobias Freund create complex audiovisual artwork, characterised by a consistent emphasis upon experimental and improvisatory composition. Live, they use a Max MSP patch, developed by Max Loderbauer and Tom Thiel, to simultaneously manipulate the aural and visual elements of their work in real time.

The duo’s eponymous new LP was composed in a similarly reciprocal manner. Either Berthelon’s video works were produced in response to the development of Freund’s soundscapes, or vice versa. The visual work across the project is based on old photographs, drawings and diagrams of the cosmos taken from old astronomy books and one of the results of this process of collaboration, ‘Zero Theorem’, can be viewed above. The Recent Arts album is out now on the Non Standard Productions label. You can buy it here.
