WATCH: Pixies’ What Goes Boom Video

Thanks to NPR Music and the Pixies we can watch this fine video of Joey Santiago being blown up in the desert.

The video was directed by Jonathan Furmanski and Matthew Galkin and was originally going to be a Star Wars parody but due to financial constraints they had to settle for the explosive immolation of their guitarist.

Speaking to NPR about the song Santiago said: "Since the reunion, there are sounds that I’ve been coming up with and a lot of them just got condensed into this one song, with me going shithouse on guitar."

Pixies singer Black Francis added mischievously that "the song is about a girl, a girl who plays the bass guitar. It’s got kind of a metal riff which I think that, on occasion, we all really enjoy playing, even though we’re not a metal band. And I wouldn’t be the first to write a song about some gal who plays bass."
