Melt Yourself Down have announced the release of a second single, ‘Fix My Life’ backed with last year’s ‘We Are Enough’, which will be released on 12" via The Leaf Label on February 25th.
The band is a collaborative project featuring an impressive host of names from the British jazz and punk scenes: Acoustic Ladyland/Polar Bear’s powerhouse saxophonist Pete Wareham, clarinetist Shabaka Hutchings, Hello Skinny’s Tom Skinner (who has also drummed with Herbert and Mulatu Astatke), Acoustic Ladyland’s Ruth Goller, Zun Zun Egui’s Kushal Gaya and Satin Singh of Transglobal Underground.
In keeping with the range of backgrounds the band’s members come from, Melt Yourself Down’s is a hybrid sound, though Acoustic Ladyland is perhaps the most noticeable presence within the fray thanks to Wareham’s distinctive screeching sax, and Gaya’s yelps are instantly familiar from Zun Zun Egui. ‘Fix My Life’ – which you can watch the suitably disorienting video for above – is a fierce piece of work, and bodes well for what’s to come from the group in future. You can order the 12" from the Leaf Label here.
