Following last week’s release of Quiet Moments, the first album in 13 years from darkwave icons Lycia, we’re pleased to present to you a video for one of its tracks. Titled ‘The Visitor’ and directed by Adria Ghiralt, the video sees a selection of crawling, cloudy shots played through pastel lenses, backed by drawling vocals and sprawling guitars. Emerging from a decade long hiatus, multi-instrumentalist Mike VanPortfleet originally formed Lycia in 1988 as a solo project, and has consequently been joined and left by various members, including wife and current vocalist, Tara VanFlower. Creating gothic soundscapes that have influenced the likes of Trent Reznor and Peter Steele, the duo claimed in a recent interview with <a href="http://www.themortonreport.com/entertainment/music/a-personal-and-candid-talk-with-mike-van-portfleet-of-lycia/
">The Morton Report that Quiet Moments was their most personal work yet.
Said VanPortfleet: "I remember reading an interview years ago with Pete Townshend of The Who, and I’m just paraphrasing this based off my fuzzy memories. I believe the question was about his solo album in the ’70s, in which he stated that Quadrophenia was the closest thing he did to a solo release, based on how personal it was. That’s how I feel about Quiet Moments. This is a very personal release for me. It’s the closest thing I’ll ever have to an autobiography."
Quiet Moments is out now on Handmade Birds, who also reissued the band’s 1996 album Cold a few weeks ago. Both are available at the label’s online store.
