A new film about Krent Able, the notorious cartoonist behind the music world’s most transgressive, funny, and downright offensive cartoons, launches on The Quietus today.
You can watch the film above, which explores the history of Able’s morbid artwork and features interviews with the demonic man himself, as well as tQ editor John Doran, The Stool Pigeon’s Phil Hebblethwaite and more.
Able’s cartoons are famed for their maximalist approach to sex, violence, gore, and of course cocks. Among his most infamous subjects are a demented Goldfrapp, a satanic Sunn O))), and of course the one and only ‘Doctor’ Nick Cave, whose medical practice is based mainly around dismemberment and gothic soliloquys.
Known in his civilian life as Steve Martin, the cartoonist recently met up with tQ along with the band Kite Base, to talk about artwork, music, cocks and finding the limit in provocative art. As he put it: "I’m not pushing myself, I’m just winding people up."
Krent Able’s new horror project, Deep Clean, is currently crowdfunding here.
