Following on from last year’s UK release of the wonderfully-titled Dansktoppen Møder Burkina Faso I Det Himmelblå Rum Hvor Solen Bor, Suite on Exotic Pylon Records, Frisk Frugt (Danish for ‘fresh fruit’) is about to embark on a UK tour – dates below – where he’ll be rolling out his rich, idiosyncratic sound across the country with support from A Hawk And A Hacksaw.
In anticipation of this, here’s a new video taken from a performance in Berlin last year at Grimmuseum, which goes some way to capturing the essence of the pioneer’s live performances. However, for a man whose latest work was as far-reaching enough to encompass indigenous West African music and Danish folk, it’s merely a snippet of Anders Lauge Meldgaard’s musical capabilities – we’ve expanded on why the man is flipping brilliant elsewhere, and we’d strongly urge you to go and catch him live:
