Concrete Antenna is a 12” vinyl set of music, art prints and essays created by Tommy Perman, Simon Kirby and Rob St. John, which has been developed from their sound installation in the new landmark tower at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. The video "was shot on Super 8 film by Tommy Perman around railway lines – both abandoned and in use – in North Edinburgh. The track layers and processes field recordings of steam engines and foghorns using manipulated tape loops and convolution reverbs. The developed Super 8 film underwent a second round of processing as it was encased in cement and moss for a month. When unearthed, the film had developed new flares, marks, lines and etchings: the landscape around the Concrete Antenna tower visually altered and reframed."
The album has been put together from a series of field recordings and archive sound samples and will be released shortly both digitally and in a 12” vinyl and print set through Random Spectacular, the publishing imprint of design collective St. Jude’s.
