On September 27 this year Drokk, the compositional duo of Geoff Barrow and composer Ben Salisbury, performed at The Dark Outside event in Galloway Forest, Scotland. Coming off the back of their soundtrack work for Alex Garland’s upcoming film Ex Machina, the event was a rare live appearance from the duo. The Dark Outside, organised by Frenchbloke (aka Stuart McLean of Tauchsieder and Mars Action), saw a host of artists contributing original, previously unheard material to be broadcast on an FM radio wave into the areas surrounding Murray’s Monument in the forest. Punters were encouraged to listen in their cars or to bring portable radios with them, and the sounds broadcast were subsequently deleted.
Drokk were amongst a cast of experimental live performers including Carter Tutti, Zoviet*france and Unicorn Diagram, and we’ve now get the pleasure of presenting a film of the duo’s nine-hour journey from Bristol up to Scotland, and their subsequent performance at The Dark Outside (the audio for which has, obviously, been deleted). It was filmed by Anthony Tombling Jr. (who advises: "Listen on decent speakers or headphones, there are some low frequencies at work…"), and can be watched via the embed below, while our interview with Ben Salisbury about their Dark Outside performance is here.
