WATCH: British Masters With John Cale

John Cale speaks to our own John Doran for latest episode of Noisey series; watch it below

The second series of Noisey’s The British Masters presented by our own John Doran is currently being rolled out and in the latest chapter of the series, John talks to another John, John Cale. You can check it out in full above.

Among the discussion points in the episode are his recent album M:FANS on which Cale radically reworked his 1982 album Music For A New Society. Speaking about the impact that the death of Lou Reed had on the album, Cale says: “When I heard that he’d started drinking again, I got really despondent that he’d lost interest in the work and when that happens, you feel like a soul brother has dropped off the world.

Cale also speaks about David Bowie in the episode describing his last album, Blackstar as “hypnotic. It was beautiful and the videos are very difficult to watch.” Speaking about the time he spent with Bowie in New York, Cale says that he invited him to play viola on stage. “There was a lot of drinking and a lot of ladies. We would see which ones could stand on our heads first.”
