Warp Records is set to release two collections of unheard demo material by Broadcast, Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009 and Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006.
Spell Blanket comprises songs and sketches drawn from the late Trish Keenan’s archive of four-track tapes and MiniDiscs, and offer an insight into recordings that would have fed into the duo’s fifth album. Distant Call, on the other hand, collects early demos that were ultimately worked into finished productions for the albums Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon.
The two records are due out over the course of this year, and will mark the last-ever release from the duo, whose final album, a collaboration with The Focus Group, came out in 2009, two years before the sudden death of Keenan as a result of pneumonia. You can listen to ‘Follow The Light’, from Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009, above.
Warp Records will release Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009 on May 3, 2024, and Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006 on September 28, 2024.
